What’s in a name? MindMixer gets new moniker
June 8, 2015 | Bobby Burch
A year after its move to Kansas City, MindMixer is making a name change.
Formerly based in Omaha, MindMixer now will go by the name of its new software product, mySidewalk, which engages communities to share ideas and stay informed of new initiatives.
“Like all businesses, the more we learn about the people we serve, the more we evolve to better serve them,” the company said in an announcement. “MindMixer is proud to rebrand as mySidewalk. … Our team is very excited about the new platform.”
The company has now served more than 1,300 organizations over the past four years to foster better relationships between community groups and their constituents, mySidewalk said. The mySidewalk platform will be offered free to constituents to increase engagement.
The company said that its name change is symbolic of its mission.
“A sidewalk represents the best of communities. It connects us like nothing else,” it said in an announcement. “The ‘my’ represents the distinct and positive differences, interests and paths inherent in every community and participant.”
MindMixer arrived in Kansas City with ambitious hiring goals, planning to create 80 to 100 IT and programming jobs in the area. The company has already raised $23.2 million, and in 2013 acquired VoterTide for an undisclosed amount.
MindMixer CEO Nick Bowden said in 2014 that he hoped his company would reach about 135 employees. He said that Kansas City offers his company a solid pipeline of tech talent that will further enable its growth.
