It’s gametime for for holiday shopping: Eight gift ideas for the Kansas City sports fan on your list

Cleats and clutter don’t mix, said Ron Barnes, throwing a flag on the dangers and inefficiencies he’s observed on the sidelines of high school football fields for the better part of two decades. 

“We’ve made gameday more efficient — and safer for everyone and everything on the field,” said Barnes, founder of Basehor-built Sideline Solutions and a longtime football coach in districts that include Basehor-Linwood, Blue Valley, and North Kansas City.

Founded in 2023, the storage solutions startup boasts a fully loaded sideline cart, custom branded for teams, complete with storage — and in some cases, 75” television screens for in-game sideline review by coaches and players. 

“Minimizing gear on the field greatly reduces the risk of unexpected trips and falls and protects devices like iPads, headsets, and other sensitive electronics — which are in more and more demand on the field,” he explained. “Not only do we make the sideline a safer space for players and staff, we greatly improve their ability to review film and make real time adjustments to their playbook mid-game.”

Carts made by Barnes can be found on the sidelines of games from 11 football programs  — with another three ordering carts since the offseason began earlier this month. Each unit is stocked with everything needed to coach a full game, easing another pain point for coaching staff — the intensive setup and teardown process involved in the experience of Friday Night Lights.

“I’ve put in the work cleaning up after a game. Trust me when I say this — anything I can do to give other coaches the ability to simply roll a cart back inside at the end of the night, I will do,” he joked.
