ShotTracker scores partnership with sports equipment giant Spalding

January 4, 2016  |  Andrea Essner

Overland Park, Kan.-based startup ShotTracker will partner with Spalding, the largest basketball equipment supplier in the world, to debut the first multi-player basketball tracking technology.

ShotTracker’s technology tracks real-time basketball performance statistics using data from chips embedded in a basketball, players’ shoes, and portable sensors placed around the court.

Davyeon Ross, COO of ShotTracker, commented that their partnership with Spalding aligns with their own product goals.

“A multi-player product has always been ShotTracker’s ultimate goal, and our partnership with Spalding is key to reaching that objective, “Ross said in a release.

Ross also touts the wearable basketball tracker as a completely unique technology.

While many competitors have attempted to automatically capture stats on multiple players in real-time, ShotTracker and Spalding are the only companies to develop a solution that is commercially viable for use at all levels of play,” Ross said.

ShotTracker developed the game-changing system to capture player and ball movement, in addition to court location. The software collects data that players and coaches can use to enhance both individual and team performance.

Spalding recognizes that their partnership with ShotTracker demonstrates their ongoing commitment to innovation in  their field.

Paul Sullivan, senior vice president of Spalding, said, “Analytics are changing how sports are played and impacting the game on many levels. We believe this trend is a remarkable opportunity for basketball. From players to coaches to fans and recruiters, there are many constituents that will benefit from real-time information on player performance.”

ShotTracker launched its first product last year, and the technology is now used by some of the biggest names in basketball, including NBA shooting guard Klay Thompson and elite trainer Charlie Torres.

The multi-player technology will be available for preview at the 2016 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas starting Jan. 6th, with the commercial product set to be available for purchase this summer.
