Look inside: Fishtech Group opens its $10M+ Cyber Defense Center in Martin City
May 6, 2019 | Tommy Felts and Austin Barnes
Fishtech Group is making a splash within the cyber security industry, showcasing its cloud-era capabilities in a new Cyber Defense Center that sits behind the gates of Fishtech’s sprawling Martin City campus, said Gary Fish.
“I’ve been doing security since before it was cool,” said Fish, founder and CEO of Fishtech, as well as an industry veteran since 1997. “And now we have some pretty cool technologies to work with.”

The company briefly opened the doors to the $10-million, 20,000-square-foot Cyber Defense Center on Thursday, allowing a select few members of the public and business community the opportunity to tour the space, typically guarded by facial recognition scanners and other security measures.
Home of CYDERES (Cyber Defense and Response team) – the human-led, machine-driven Security-as-a-Service division of Fishtech Group — the facility boasts a two-story, 24/7 Cyber Security Operation Center (CSOC).

“Within the CSOC, we use artificial intelligence and machine learning, and when we see a threat, we can respond — call the customer, tell them the situation and say, ‘Here’s what we need to do to mitigate the threat,’” Fish said. “The idea is to mitigate the threat before it gets too crazy, then we’ll go in and fix it for good.”

The CSOC features a 30 foot-by-18 foot wall video screen, along with 20 workstations and three offices. The space is viewable by a second-floor balcony, but full access requires a man trap door system and multiple forms of identity verification, Fish said.
Another walkway around the exterior of the CSOC serves a dual purpose, he said.
“We were going to just display artwork, but then came up with the idea to call it the ‘Cloud Gallery’ — a place where we could display new technologies,” Fish said, gesturing to walls lined with large touch screen monitors and luxurious seating.
The glass encasing the Cyber Defense Center itself tells a story, he added, describing subtle details within the frit gradient used to allow in different levels of light along the building’s second floor.
“The frit is actually code. And if you look closely at the binary, it spells Fishtech over and over,” Fish said with a smile. “You can spend a little time here to figure out where the uppercase ‘F’ starts.”

Work areas across the Cyber Defense Center have some of the look and feel of an upscale coworking space, he acknowledged, noting the open seating environment with no assigned offices or work stations. Unlike such coworking environments, however, the amenity-rich Fishtech space offers far fewer distractions for the Cyber Defense Center’s 30 full-time employees, he said. (Another 80 workers office across the parking lot at Fishtech’s 2-year-old headquarters.)
Coming soon to Fishtech: Property upgrades outside the Cyber Defense Center, which runs to the Blue River. A replica of Augusta’s No. 12 par 3 golf hole, walking trail and large entertainment pavilion are planned, Fish said.
