DivvyHQ exits: They built this KC startup brick-by-brick, now it fits within a bigger story

A Kansas City marketing tech startup’s acquisition by Lytho, a leading creative project management platform, is built upon the two brands’ complementary company ideologies and tech, said Brock Stechman.
“We’re seeing a lot of consolidation in our market, and this was an opportunity where we could collaborate and come together seamlessly with a single, specialized, unified solution,” the co-founder of DivvyHQ told Startland News.
Lytho formally announced the acquisition this week. The deal closed Jan. 31. Financial details of the exit were not disclosed.
Founded in 2011 by Stechman and Brody Dorland, DivvyHQ is an award-winning content operations platform that makes it easy for global marketing, content, and communications teams to get organized, plan, produce, and publish high-quality content more efficiently.
“Building a company from the ground up, brick-by-brick, is incredibly difficult,” Stechman said in a LinkedIn post announcing the exit. “It truly truly does take a village. For those who have been a part of our journey thus far, I can’t thank you enough.”
“Of course, I’m very proud of what we’ve built,” he continued. “But I’m much more proud of who we built it with. Who you work with makes all the difference in the world.”
DivvyHQ is expected to continue as a standalone product for the foreseeable future, according to Lytho, although the two companies already have begun integrating their platforms to provide customers with a more seamless and efficient content creation experience.
Stechman is now vice president of strategy for Lytho, with Dorland becoming vice president of marketing.
“We’re excited about these new positions; it’s a great opportunity for us both,” Stechman said.
“And our entire team is being integrated into Lytho,” he continued, detailing plans for DivvyHQ’s 12-person workforce. “We have a remote team, our core team in Kansas City, as well as developers in Argentina and the Philippines through our partnership with Full Scale. Everybody will be able to continue working from where they are now.”
The acquisition of DivvyHQ represents a significant step forward for Lytho and its commitment to providing innovative solutions for content creation and process management, said Doug Thede, CEO of Lytho.
“I am truly excited to incorporate DivvyHQ into the Lytho ecosystem,” he said. “Not only are we adding a solution that serves the unique needs of content marketing and communications teams, but we are also joining forces with experienced professionals who understand our market — both the opportunities and challenges that our customers face.”
For the past 20 years, Lytho has been serving creative teams with best-in-class creative workflow, review and approval, automation, and digital asset management capabilities, according to the North Carolina-based company. This acquisition allows Lytho to quickly expand its reach within marketing organizations and deliver an integrated toolset that manages all aspects of the content creation lifecycle.
“Together we’ll be able to provide unique and highly specialized solutions to make it much easier for marketing content, communications, and creative teams to all work seamlessly together,” said Stechman.
