A weeklong event elevating the doers, dreamers and makers at the heartbeat of Kansas City small business needs the community’s help, Jenny Miller said.

Organizers of Global Entrepreneurship Week — set for Nov. 18-22 in Kansas City — are now accepting event submissions for this year’s celebration, said Miller, network builder at KCSourceLink and chair of the GEWKC organizing committee.

Submissions for ideas are open through Aug. 18 at www.gewkc.org. Events are organized into five tracks: makers and creators; startups; social enterprises; scalers; and tech (new category for 2019).

All ideas are welcome: individual speakers and presenters, headliners, panels and workshops, Miller said, adding that topics focusing on providing additional knowledge and skill-sharing with the community have the best chance to be selected.

Global Entrepreneurship Week is an international celebration of the innovators and job creators who launch startups and bring ideas to life. Founded in Kansas City by the Kauffman Foundation in 2008, the event has since expanded to more than 160 countries.

“Last year, thousands came out to connect with and learn from investors and job creators at 175 events across the KC metro,” Miller said. “The real-world information and experience that presenters share at these sessions is great for business owners, solopreneurs just starting out and those who are looking to grow. Really, there’s something for everyone.”

Well-attended event topics from 2018: learn to leverage LinkedIn; get paid to speak; the best business advice I ever got; how to be an entrepreneur in 75 minutes; hacks to make your videos look professional; tell effective stories on social media; and start a business with no money.

GEW’s 2019 events are expected to be organized in a central location, though the site for the week of workshops, panels and other premier activities has not yet been announced. The majority of 2017 and 2018 GEW events were held at Plexpod Westport Commons.
