ScaleUP! KC reveals new 15-member cohort of growing businesses; touts alumni successes

ScaleUP! Kansas City ninth cohort

Entrepreneurs joining the latest ScaleUP! Kansas City cohort represent ventures from such varied business sectors as photography, construction, design, counseling, film and engineering, said Jill Meyer.

ScaleUP! Kansas City provides direct support for growth-oriented entrepreneurs and firms, to include underserved and underrepresented communities/populations, and strengthens the entrepreneurial ecosystem by filling a gap for second-stage businesses.

With two cohorts per year, the program helps qualified businesses with revenues above $200,000 reach their expansion goals by leveraging and expanding existing proven programs, synergies and connections in the Kansas City region.

ScaleUP! KC is funded and administered by the UMKC Innovation Center. Find more information on applications and the current cohort at www.scaleupkc.com.

An ability to scale knows no single industry, emphasized Meyer, program director of ScaleUP! KC.

“This program has shown us, time and time again, that not only can you start a business in Kansas City, but you can also scale it here,” she said. “The limits, really, are as high as your ambition.”

This newest cohort — ScaleUP! KC’s ninth — builds the total number of Scalers to 141 Kansas City business owners who have participated in the free program. ScaleUP! KC helps entrepreneurs create the processes, strategies and long-term plans to not only grow but also to scale their businesses, Meyer said.

Members of the new cohort include:

  • Amie Bristol, HMC Performance Coatings, Tonganoxie — HMC Performance Coatings is a woman-owned, award-winning media-blasting and powder-coating facility serving custom, commercial and industrial clients.
