Startup Rewind
When: Nov. 1, 7:15 a.m. – 8:30 a.m.
Where: Deer Creek Country Club
Startup Rewind gives local entrepreneurs a venue to pitch their idea followed by questions and feedback from the audience. This valuable feedback will help encourage and grow their ideas and in turn build a better community through business and entrepreneurship. Come join us for some great ideas and out of the box thinking. The goal is to get the word out about new companies and ideas, while gaining feedback from the community of business leaders and other entrepreneurs. This format will help foster business networking and encourage those entrepreneurs who are creating tomorrows big ideas. The Startup Rewind takes presentations made at other entrepreneurial events from the Startup scene in Kansas City and replays them again. This gives them another chance to get themselves in front of more people who may have missed it the first time around, thus the name Startup Rewind. Startup Rewind meets once monthly on the first Wednesday of the month at Deer Creek Country Club from 7:15am to 8:30am. The event is hosted and sponsored by the Overland Park South Rotary Club.

Enterprise University: Attracting Hispanic Consumers to Your Brand
When: Nov. 2, 8:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.
Where: Training Umbrella
Taught by Nicholas Segura. Hispanic consumers are a driving force in today’s business world. Understanding how to attract Hispanic buyers with culturally relevant communications, knowledge, and insight is key to marketing to this audience.

Winning Government Contracts: The First Steps
When: Nov. 2, 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Where: UMKC SBTDC
This introductory 3-hour seminar is an overview of the critical first steps associated with winning government contracts. The Missouri Procurement Technical Assistance Center (MO PTAC) hosts this monthly seminar on how to get started in the government contracting arena including federal, state and local government registrations and certifications. The seminar will also cover MO PTAC services available to assist Missouri businesses in all aspects of government contracting.

SMCKC November Breakfast: VML and Snapchat – Building A Millennial Following

Garth Brooks was about to earn his 7th diamond, making him the biggest selling U.S. solo artist of all time (even bigger than The Beatles). Since all of his music was made in Tennessee, the idea was to bring him back to Nashville to celebrate with a free concert and make Tennessee’s new Snapchat channel the only way in.

Mid-Continent Public Library’s Square One Small Business Services Hosts Workshop with Local HR Experts
When: Nov. 3, 8:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
Where: iWerx
HR Workshop for Entrepreneurs with Adrienne B. Haynes. During the workshop, Haynes, who is the Managing Partner of the business law firm SEED Law and owner of the consultancy SEED Collective, and a panel of experts will discuss human resource management, including what entrepreneurs should know if they are managing a workforce without an HR department. The conversation will focus on what you should do, what you have to do, and how to avoid big mistakes in managing your human resource issues on your own.

Getting Funded Outside Silicon Valley
When: Nov. 8, 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m.
Where: Plexpod Westport Commons
Come by Plexpod Westport Commons, arrive early to purchase some lunch from The Sundry if you like, and hang out for an awesome panel on fundraising hosted by Firebrand Ventures.
**Please arrive at the annex (just west of the main building and right next to the parking lot)**
Panelists will include Techstars Managing Director Lesa Mitchell, blooom CEO Chris Costello, and Cooley Partner Keith Berets. Each panelist has a wealth of experience either raising money themselves, investing, or helping others in the fundraising process outside of Silicon Valley.
With the Midwest attracting a small percentage of of U.S. venture capital, we’ll talk about how to maximize your chance of raising, what things to avoid doing, and we’ll reserve time for some questions.
After the panel ends at 2pm, Keith Berets and John Fein will hold office hours for anyone who wants to meet.

Second Fridays

Second Fridays is a casual, fun gathering for the startup community to connect on a monthly basis with no agenda except good times.
We’ll provide games & snacks, you BYOB (with a twist) – bring a 6-pack of beer and add it to our “beer potluck” cooler where we’ll keep it nice n’ cold. When you want another beer, grab one of your own or someone else’s. Mix it up and enjoy a variety of suds throughout the evening.
If you play an instrument, we encourage you to bring it with you. What better way to end the week than with a startup community jam session!?
