5 TEDxKC perspectives on navigating life’s next disruptions

What’s the greatest threat to humanity? Self obsession? Artificial intelligence? Resentment?

Depends on your perspective.

An eclectic group of TEDxKC presenters gathered Friday at the Kauffman Center of Performing Arts to share their expertise on how art, philosophy, technology, individual experiences and even interpersonal relationships shape the perspectives through which people see the reality around them.

“We need to choose our mental competition wisely. We get to choose any point we want,” offered TEDxKC speaker Lindsey Roy, a storyteller whose life was forever altered by an accident that left her with an amputated left leg and severely injured right leg.

“The power of perspective is short-term unless you find ways to make it last,” Roy, a Hallmark executive and professional speaker, said.

Below are four more of the most impactful observations from the event. Click on each quote for more context and check out the photo gallery below.

“Break the rules from your parents’ generation. Your father kept an immaculate garage. Your mother made a home-cooked meal every night. But in your family, with two full-time jobs and kids, let it go. Your mother might’ve ordered in too, if she had an iPhone.”
— Cathi Hanauer
