In the early 90s, the coffee obsession wasn’t cool, O’Neill said. But in 1992, O’Neill had a vision of Midwestern coffee culture could be — and just couldn’t let go of. This journey led him to become the prominent Kansas City entrepreneur known as “the Bean Baron.”
Although there are many popular coffee shops in Kansas City, the Roasterie is now an international brand. O’Neill tells KC Greats host Scott Parman about his journey moving to Kansas City to start the Roasterie and how he brought the grit of small town Iowa with him.
