WEEKLY EVENT PREVIEW

Second Fridays at Village Square
When: October 14 @ 4:30 pm – 7:30 pm
Where: Village Square Coworking Studio
Second Fridays is a casual, fun gathering for the startup community to connect on a monthly basis with no agenda except good times. We’ll provide games & cards (bags if it’s nice). This event is BYOB with a twist – bring a 6-pack of your favorite beer to share and we’re going to have a “beer potluck” cooler. We’ll ice down everyone’s beer and have quite the selection to choose from! No RSVP necessary, just come on by.

Kansas City Women in Technology October TechTalk

Sports Hack for Social Change
When: October 21 – October 23
Where: Kauffman Foundation Conference Center
You’re invited to engage with a diverse group of peers, community stakeholders, engineers, scientists, entrepreneurs, educators and students in designing solutions to support community programs for KC youth, including the Royals Urban Youth Academy. Play for Tomorrow is a social innovation hack using sports as a vehicle for change across North America and to promote the development of underserved youth.

‘Try Coding’ one day class
When: October 22 @ 10:00 am – 4:00 pm
Where: Kauffman Foundation
Software development is a proven path to a high-fulfillment career. Hundreds of people with no technical background are becoming software developers every year. Try Coding is a one-day class from the Turing School that will expose you to the basics of programming. We’ll introduce you to Ruby, a popular programming language for building web applications, and to the basics of HTML, CSS and JavaScript. In addition to an intro to programming, we’ll give you a chance to ask Turing instructors and alumni about the school, and about life as a developer. The cost for the class and lunch is $50.

Zipcar Launch Press Conference

Where: outside of Union Station
Join Mayor Sly James, City Council members and Zipcar representatives as they rev an engine to officially bring Zipcar car sharing to downtown Kansas City.
