GigaPower coming to northeastern Johnson County

AT&T announced this week that the company is expanding availability of U-Verse with GigaPower, its latest high-speed internet service aiming to compete against Google Fiber.
The service is coming to Fairway, Mission Hills and Prairie Village, the company announced Monday. GigaPower appeared in the Kansas City metro area in February in parts of Kansas City, Mo., Independence, Leawood, Lenexa, Overland Park, Olathe and Shawnee.
“Area residents stand to gain the most from this new, ultra-fast Internet, but AT&T GigaPower’s arrival also shows how confident employers and businesses are about our community,” Deb Settle, president and CEO of the Northeast Johnson County Chamber of Commerce, said in a news release. “Our legislators and local elected officials worked hard to encourage this investment, and we expect the service to be a great stimulus for additional local businesses.”
The company touts user ability to download 25 songs in less than one second, a television show in three seconds or a high-definition movie in 36 seconds, all with speeds up to one gigabit per second.
